AI-Visualization: World fertility rates in ‘unprecedented decline’, UN says

The BBC’s June 10th story on the decline of fertility rates seems worrying. Are all developed nations now at less than 2.1 which is the replacement rate? I used Claude to analyze and visualize fertility rates in various developed countries.

Key Observations:

  • Israel is unique – the only developed nation consistently above replacement level (2.1)
  • South Korea has the world’s lowest fertility rate at 0.73 in 2024
  • UK peaked at 2.65 in 1965, now at historic low of 1.44
  • Sweden maintained relatively stable rates with comprehensive family policies
  • Germany hit extremely low levels in the 1990s but has partially recovered
  • Japan faces severe aging crisis with fertility at 1.20
  • All countries except Israel are now well below replacement level
